Pa's Funeral

Pa's funeral was held on April 3, 2012.  We had a viewing before and once again the line was out the door.  It was so amazing.  The funeral service was very nice.  It went a bit long for my kids, but they did surprisingly well.  Especially considering how they usually act during sacrament meeting.  My mom and Ralpher spoke, each one of the grandkids and their spouses shared a memory of Pa.  We had an amazing musical number.  And one of Pa's dear friends spoke.  The chapel was completely packed.  After the service we went to the cemetery.  The graveside service was short.

Dang, this turned out blurry.  People kept standing in front of me.
The pallbearers were: Spencer, Nate, Chase, Hunter, Quin, and Pa's 3 brothers.

Pa's beautiful casket.  He had always said he wanted to be buried in a pine box.  I don't think this was pine, but I think he would have liked it.

The beautiful flowers

Now, Pa was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at the U.  He stayed connected with the fraternity all his life.  He helped with the remodel of the frat house and that is where we had MeMe and Pa's 50th wedding anniversary a few years ago (here). The Sigma Chi's have a white rose ceremony.  All of these amazing fraternity boys(past and present) came to the funeral and the graveside.  At the graveside they sang the song and presented the roses.  It was so touching.

The next three pictures show just how many fraternity boys came to show their support

Here is a video of the song.
It is not a very good one because I was just using my still camera.

This white rose song reminds me of when Aaron and I went to dinner with the adults from my family after the anniversary party while Andrew was still in town.  Pa had some of his Sigma Chi friends with him and they sang MeMe a song.  I can't remember if it was this song, or a different one.  It is one they sing when a Sigma Chi gets engaged( I think).  Anyway.  He and his friends sang it to MeMe in the middle of the restaurant and we gave her roses.  The whole place was staring at us by the time we were done.  People even came up to us after and complimented the guys on their song.

After we were done at the graveside, we went to the church for the luncheon.
Can I just say, MeMe's relief society is dang amazing.  They put together this wonderful lunch for us and took care of everything.  After the lunch we just went back to MeMe's to be with her.
