Homemade Beef Jerky

I just tried this recipe last night. It turned out really well. Beef jerky is one of Aaron's favorite snacks, so I made him some. This recipe is from the 25th Anniversary Edition of the Heritage Cookbook done by the Junior League of Salt Lake City.

1 flank steak, not scored (or 4 lbs. brisket of beef)
1/2 cup soy sauce
Garlic salt, to taste
Lemon pepper, to taste

Cut meat in long strips with the grain (1/2" maximum thickness). Toss with soy sauce( I let mine marinate in the soy sauce for a couple of hours). Set a wire rack on top of a baking sheet. Arrange strips in single layer on rack. Sprinkle with garlic salt and lemon pepper(or whatever seasonings you want, I used a seasoning from Aaron's family that we use on all of our steaks). Set second rack on top of beef. Flip over. Remove top rack. Sprinkle again with garlic salt and lemon pepper. Bake at 150 degrees for 12 hours. Store in covered container. Yield: 1 to 2 lbs.

Aaron says: It is really good!
I say: I don't really like beef jerky, but this was yummy.

Fourth of July Weekend

FRIDAY-

We went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house.
It is a very beautiful temple. We were glad we got the chance to take our kids and show them what a temple looks like on the inside.

Friday night, Dallin was lucky enough to go with Grandpa to see Centerville city's fireworks. He had a blast!

SATURDAY-
We went to the Centerville City parade.
We go pretty much every year. It is so fun!

Dallin enjoyed collecting as much candy as he could.

Brooklyn enjoyed seeing floats, horses, and of course candy!

The family

Ready to celebrate in their RED, WHITE, and BLUE!

Saturday night, we went to my parents house for a BBQ, and then up to a neighbors house to watch some totally legal fireworks. I think the whole neighborhood was there.

The husband and me

Grandpa, Brooke, and Dallin.
Brooke was not really sure about the fireworks.
Dallin LOVED them!

We had a wonderful Fourth! We hope you all had a great time too!

I just finished reading...

Still Alice by Lisa Genova. I started it this morning, and had to finish it. It is a really good book. It is about a woman who is only fifty and finds out she has Alzheimer's. If you haven't read this book, you should. I highly recommend it.
